Scams, scams!

Here are the latest two scams that came across my in box or should I say my spam filter today. The first one is from "Absa" asking me to update my details in order to avoid people phishing my bank account. This interested me considerably given that I do not have an Absa banking account.

Here is what was sent to me: Dear Valued ABSA Customers,

Absa has been warning customers to upgrade to our new server.
Fraudsters have devised a new method of defrauding customers. With this new fraud scheme they use the traditional method of identity theft (phishing), Hacking into customers online banking, to avoid phishing and identity theft we advice you login to our secure server
Upgrade your internet banking by clicking here

If you click on the link you will see it is not even an Absa website.

The second was from "Sars" This is what I received:
Dear South African Revenue Service customer,

After the last annual calculation of your fiscal activity we have determined that you are eligible to receive a refund of 740.50 Rand.

Please submit the form and allow us 3-5 days in order to process it.

A refund can be delayed for a variety of reasons. For example submitting invalid records or applying after the deadline.

To access the form for your tax refund, please click here

This you will see leads you to a warning page regarding fraud. If you receive such emails then I suggest you go into the bank or the SARS offices and do any upgrading there.
